Causes of appearance of the Lord
At the very beginning of 10th canto adorable acharya Sukdevji says to Maharaj Parikhit, rajan today is the 4th day and you had not even taken any food or water, atleast drink a little water and then I will make you hear the rest of Bhagavad. In reply King Parikshit says :-
            naisatiduhsaha ksun mang tyaktodam api badhate
            pibantam tvam-mukhambhoja-cyutam hari-kathamritam (10/1/13)
            Gurudev hearing your bhagavati katha I am enjoying such bliss, when mind is absorbed in the flavor of bhakti and prema at that time there is no hunger or thirst, drinking the nectar oozing out from your mouth in the form of bhagavati katha all my thirst and hunger had disappeared.
            Sukdevji ascends blissfully and says:-
            evam nisamya bhrigu-nandana sadhu-vadam vaiyasakih sa bhagavan atha            vishnuratam
            pratyarcya krishna-charita kali-kalmasa-ghnam vyahartum arabhata bhagavata- pradhana (10/1/14)
            Rajan you are blessed; you have heard this Bhagavad katha with great peace and devotion. Paying obeisance to Lord Sri Krishna Sukdevji says, Ram-katha I had described was very simple, but Krishna-katha is beyond excellence, so hey Sri Krishna You be present in my heart and Yourself say about Yourself, I will remember, adore and visualize You and also hear about You. Thus in the kirtana of 10th canto of Bhagavattam Srila Sukdevji Maharaj forgets about what he was describing.
            While performing kirtana and hearing the 10th canto of Bhagavattam Maharaj Sukdevji enters into samadhi. The sorrows of mind is adhi (anxiety) and the sorrows of body is byadhi (disease) and the sorrow of this samsara is upadhi (attribute). When all these become identical means nothing stays then it is samadhi. So the speaker of 10th canto is Sri Krishna Himself and Sri Sukdev is the hearer. From the day the Ganga of gyana and bhakti of Sri Krishna katha is manifested from that day the magnanimity of Bhagirathi Ganga shortens a little. If someone bathes in the holy place of the river of Bhagirathi Ganga all the sins of his body washes away but the sins of the mind does not, but one who takes regular dip in the Suradhani of Krishna katha all the sins of his body, mind and intelligence gets washed away. The Ganga in the form of Krishna katha is beneficial for all.
            In a country various wicked persons like Kamsa, Jarasandha, Salya, Dantabakra, Sishupal etc. takes birth and inflicts severe atrocities upon the simple general people. The citizens keep suffering the trails and tribulations. It is not over population, but many sinful persons are the cause of burden for mother earth. So mother earth takes the form of cow and goes to Brahmaloka where she narrates her sorrowful tales to Lord Brahma including the devatas. Lord Brahma alongwith the devatas and mother earth reaches the banks of ksirasagara (sea of milk) :-
            tatra gatva jagannatham deva-devah vrisakapim
            purusham purusa-suktena upatasthe samahitah  (10/1/20)
            Glorifies the Adi Narayana Paramatma and prays to Him. There is a great power in prayer, if bhakti is performed properly, if prayed properly then the mind remains pure for a long time. For instance when someone takes his food, he does not feel hungry for four/five hours, similarly when one prays, than for four/five hours he does not have any sinful thought. Prayer is the food of mind and soul. Brahmaji in his prayers hears the message of Paramatma, He says, Prithivi is my consort Bhudevi and I know her sorrows before anyone else, so I will take birth in the prison house of Devaki and Vasudeva.
            vasudeva-grihe sakshad bhagavan purusha para
            janisyate tat-priyartham sambhavantu sura-striyah (10/1/23)
            The Lord will appear in the house of Vasudeva and to accomplish affection to Him the ladies of devatas are to take birth in the land of Braja.
            Meanwhile in Mathura Vasudeva and Devaki gets married and to proceed towards husband’s house Devaki and Vasudeva gets up to the chariot. Kamsa becomes the charioteer, and as the journey starts, the devataas thinks that Vasudeva is a great Vaishnava and if Kamsa commits atrocities upon him, if he gives him trouble than only the Lord will reveal early. When a sinful is unhappy he does not receive the mercy of the Lord but the sorrows of a devotee is unbearable to the Lord. Thinking in this way the devataas speaks to Kamsa in a celestial voice:-
            pathi pragrahinam kamsa avashyahasarira-vak
            asyas tvam astamo garbho hanta yam vahase budha (10/1/34)
            Ohe foolish Kamsa, that Devaki whom you are carrying, the eighth son in her womb is your death, He will kill you. Hearing this Kamsa gets hold the braid of Devaki and activates to sever her head, Vasudeva at that time wanting to pacify Kamsa thus speaks – Rajan what is this you are doing, one who has taken birth is sure to die one day, it is impossible to prevent death and so mahajanas takes care to make this death auspicious. Vasudeva further says, by killing Devaki you will not become immortal and hence do not kill Devaki. But as Kamsa was extremely cruel and could not be pacified neither terrified by good instructions, Vasudeva makes another plan to stop him. He asks Kamsa, is your newly wedded sister the cause of your death, Kamsa says, no, the eighth son in her womb will be the cause, then Vasudeva says, I promise, when Devaki gives birth to the sons, I will immediately handover them to you and after that you do whatever you like, but don’t kill your sister, as it will only bring disrepute to you and living with infamy is as good as death. One who lives with anger, greed and disgrace, he is not alive he is dead. In this way Vasudevji promising to bestow his children to Kamsa, saves his wife Devaki from certain death.
            na hyasyas te bhayam saumya yad vai sahasarira-vak
            putran samarpayisye sya yatas te bhayam utthitam  (10/1/54)
            O best of sober according to the celestial voice you don’t have any fear from Devaki, your fear is from her child, therefore I will handover the children of hers to you and you may do whatever you like.
            At the right moment Devaki gives birth to a child and Vasudeva takes it away and gives it to Kamsa. Vasudevji – the offence of breaking the truth is most sinful and he is fearful of that sin. One should never be fearful of a person but should be fearful of sin. One who is fearful of sin attains a sacred life and gets the darshan of Parmatma. Vasudevji’s preservation of promise and truthful speech influences and transforms the mind of Kamsa. He returns back the child saying, this child is not the cause of my death, so you take it, you nourish the seven children of Devaki and bring them up, but only give me the eighth child that will be ok. Devaki and Vasudeva become happy by this behavior of Kamsa.
            On the other side Narada thinks if the intelligence of Kamsa becomes right than Bhagavan will not manifest, the more Kamsa commits sin the more early he will be destroyed. Thus Naradji arrives and by counting mala (the beads) with his fingers makes Kamsa understand that from anywhere you start counting, you will see that one after another everyone will become number eight; now from where the devataas will start, whether they start from the beginning or from the end that you can’t predict – so all the sons of Devaki may be her eighth sons, so now it is upto you, do whatever you like. Debt, enemy, sin and disease, there should be no mercy upon these four, they are never ordinary. Hearing these talks of Narada, Kamsa immediately snatches the first child of Devaki-Vasudeva, takes away its life by throwing it violently upon a stone and chains Devaki-Vasudeva in a prison. One who thinks that happiness is the mercy of the Lord, he is an ordinary vaishnava and one who thinks that unhappiness is also the mercy of the Lord, he is a true vaishnava.
            Sukhesu anudvigna mana, dukhesu bigata spriha
            Bitaraga vaya krodha stitadhir muniruchate
            One who is not worried in difficulty, who does not have a longing for happiness, he is my beloved devotee, the Lord says in Gita, he does not have any attachment, fear and anger and is steady, he is therefore the greatest of all munis.
